What is the Niehoff Lecture?

It is a black tie/cocktail gala (affectionately known to some as Nerd Prom) featuring the best and most important writers of our time. The series was first imagined in 1987 by Buck and Patti Niehoff. From the beginning they have graciously underwritten the event.

What do you mean by "Lecture?"

In this case, an author delivers a talk on their chosen subject, usually their body of work.

Is it a fundraiser?

Yes. It is the only fundraiser we have every year. The money earned at the Niehoff Lecture helps us to be a more welcoming and thoughtful place for all the entire next year.

What happens at the Niehoff?

Well, that stays at the Niehoff.

No, really, what happens?

A cocktail reception, a multi-course dinner, the lecture, and that’s it. And if you want, you can purchase a book or two to be signed by the author.

Is there assigned seating?

Yes. Whether you’ve bought one ticket or ten, we make sure you are seated with delightful dining companions. And you may end up making some new friends.

Is it fun?

Yes! When was the last time you got dressed up, really dressed up, to celebrate the written word with hundreds of other people?

What do you mean by really dressed up?

The suggested attire is black-tie or cocktail.

Who has delivered the Niehoff Lecture?

Ray Bradbury, John Updike, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Zadie Smith, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Julia Child, Scott Turow, Ann Patchett, Erik Larson, and Amor Towles to name a few.

How much is a ticket?
$200 for Library members
