The Black Experience Book Club brings light to works created by Black Authors in America, in an attempt to understand the Black Experience in America.
What are the pitfalls, the high points, the commonalities, the differences in what it means to be Black in America throughout history and today? The book club holds space for people to share their experiences and foster community and scholarship.
In June, we're reading The Fire Next Time, an essay collection by James Baldwin. This discussion starts a summer of reading leading up to our Modern Novel Lecture in September, delivered by Jesmyn Ward. Baldwin's essays inspired Ward to edit a new collection, The Fire This Time, which we'll be reading in July.
The BEBC meets monthly from January to October each year.
