Canon Club: Station Eleven

One of our longest-running discussion groups, Canon Club reads the work of Shakespeare and work inspired by Shakespeare's plays.

Emily St. John Mandel’s 2014 novel, Station Eleven, may already be on your Goodreads bookshelf or in your TBR pile. Or perhaps you enjoyed the 2021 HBO series based on the novel. We’re bringing it to Canon Club because this post-apocalyptic book weaves Shakespeare into its narrative, chiefly through reference to two plays—A Midsummer Night’s Dream and King Lear.

We’ll discuss how the novel weaves together concerns about art and
creation with a pandemic recovery narrative.
