The Black Experience Book Club is dedicated to examining literature by Black authors, providing a structured space for thoughtful dialogue and deeper understanding of the Black experience in America.

The book traces the dynamic, complicated relationship between Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes—two major figures of the Harlem Renaissance. It explores how their creative partnership flourished through shared travels, collaborations, and artistic vision, especially during their work on the play Mule Bone. Their friendship ultimately unraveled due to personal tensions, misunderstandings, and disputes over authorship. Through letters, diaries, and historical detail, the book offers a vivid portrait of their bond, their artistic brilliance, and the cultural world they helped shape.
