Join us at The Mercantile Library for a conversation with Cincinnati author Jeff Howe about his novel, Into the Roaring Fork, a gripping thriller set in the rugged wilderness and reckless excess of 1980s Aspen.
Fresh out of college in 1985, twenty-two-year-old Alex Cavanaugh heads west with his girlfriend, Erin, determined to build a new life in Aspen. But when Alex is offered $14,000 to carry sixty pounds of cocaine through the Colorado backcountry, he makes one very bad decision. What begins as a seemingly simple trek into the White River National Forest quickly turns dangerous, leaving Alex stranded in the wilderness and caught up in something far worse than the crime he agreed to commit.
Set against the breathtaking landscape of Colorado, Into the Roaring Fork is a suspenseful story of temptation, survival, and the consequences of one very bad decision.
Howe brings a personal connection to the story's setting. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1985 with a B.A. in communications, he moved to Aspen and worked for KSPN-TV2 before eventually returning to Cincinnati. During this lunchtime program, Howe will discuss Into the Roaring Fork, his experiences living in Aspen, and the journey from his own time in Colorado to writing his first novel.
